Alabama Rural Ministry MLK Weekend

Business Matters

Alabama Rural Ministry (ARM) has coordinated an MLK Weekend of Service to honor Dr. Martin Luther King in January 2018. The following excerpt was taken from the ARM Website – “Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the leader of the Civil Rights Movement, a pastor and one of our century’s greatest leaders spoke and lived a message of non-violence to overturn unjust laws. He often quoted the prophet Amos who once proclaimed, ‘let justice roll down like waters, and mercy like an ever flowing spring.’ Dr. King continues to be an inspiration to so many today.” The statement continues with the Website stating why the MLK Weekend of Service is so important to the organization. “It seems appropriate that we would celebrate his birthday weekend by sharing in Christ’s love with our brothers and sisters and serving together in our community.” Join ARM for a community-wide worship service and gospel concert on Sunday, January 14, 2018 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Tuskegee First United Methodist Church, 202 South Main Street You’ll also hear one of Dr. King’s famous sermons (re)presented by a local minister. This will be followed by a Day of Service on Monday, January 15th as volunteers work with ARM on home repairs, at the food bank or beautifying the Tuskegee community. Also on January 15th, ARM will host the MLKids Children’s Event. Children between 5 and 10 years of age in the Tuskegee area are invited to participate in the program on Monday at Tuskegee First United Methodist Church from 10:00am to 2:00pm. This is a free event that will include a Bible lesson, arts and crafts and activities that will help children learn about Dr. King’s life and legacy. Lunch also will be served.
