Through the power of social media, the Tuskegee Area Chamber of Commerce (TACC)
meeting attracted a significant audience. More than 1,000 viewer impressions were
tallied on Facebook as the meeting was live-streamed January 27, 2020. About 120
people were physically in the Tuskegee Municipal Complex during the meeting, which
focused on ECONOMIC RESILIENCE. After Judge Deborah Biggers officiated the
swearing-in ceremony of Chamber officers, a robust discussion followed involving
factors that affect the local business community. A panel discussion was co-facilitated by
Chamber President Loretta Alexander and Phillip Stringer, a 28-year old real estate
investor who owns property in Tuskegee. The panel consisted of Pam Roberts,
President of Tuskegee Federal Credit Union, Henry Moses, a 22-year old emerging
businessman in the technology industry and Dr. Jacqueline Brooks, Superintendent of
Macon County Schools. Tuskegee businessman, Vaughn Tarver had a medical
emergency that prevented him from participating on the panel. Chamber Executive
Director, Karin Hopkins shared the Chamber’s 2020 priorities and also talked about the
HGTV program Home Town, which is looking for a small, distressed town for a
makeover. The Chamber has scheduled a special meeting concerning the HGTV Home
Town opportunity at 6:00pm on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at the Macon County
Schools transportation building on MLK Highway.
