Tuskegee Chamber supports school training programs

BUSINESS MATTERS

Karin Hopkins

The next Chamber meeting will be held at the Career and Technical Education Center operated by the Macon County school system. In addition to hearing about the full scope of programs at this facility, Chamber members and other attendees will get a briefing on the robotics training that puts Macon County in a league of its own. Robotics is the name of the game in the manufacturing work world and people who complete this training are ready to work in the automotive and aerospace industries. Best news of all, the training is free. This means unemployed or underemployed adults in this community can enroll at no cost. Spencer Ferguson is an electrical engineer and the robotics instructor. He and Macon County Schools Superintendent, Dr. Jacqueline Brooks discussed this program recently with news anchor Tonya Terry, including the mobile classroom that also has training equipment inside. This mobile training lab can pull into your neighborhood, eliminating a barrier for people who do not have a car or any means of transportation. Learn more about what the school system is doing to prepare our workforce for the jobs of today and tomorrow by attending the next meeting of the Tuskegee Area Chamber of Commerce on Monday, February 26, 2018 beginning at 6:30pm. The Career and Technical Education Center is located at 1902 Taylor Street, near Tuskegee Institute Middle School. At a cost of $2 million from a grant, supplemented by in-kind contributions, the Industrial Maintenance program is an asset to this community. To contact the Career and Technical Education Center, call 334.724.1236. It is clearly in the Chamber’s interest to support career preparation in the school system. We applaud school administrators for offering these great programs that can help local residents get work. When people are earning money, their spending ripples throughout the local economy and anything that contributes to cash registers ringing in local shops is inherently good for BUSINESS MATTERS.
